Rhys and Ralf met in media class at school,
and soon decided to start a band together. Simon, friends with Rhys since
primary school, and an experienced bassist, was invited to play, and
we've never looked back. Around April/May of 2001, Crouton was formed.
We quickly got down to writing, and Tired and Sorry was perfected
after two practice sessions. Next came Odyssey, completely written
together, mainly through jamming until something sounded good.
Although Crouton had never played a gig, we decided the next step
we would take would be to record our first originals, so we had something
'hard' for people to listen to. We borrowed a four-track
recorder and laid down four songs onto a demo cd: Odyssey, Tired and
Sorry, Remote, and Useless.
Once Sympathise was written - soon after the demo recording -
Crouton had a 25 minute set of Alternative/Indie Rock
originals, and we sought our first gig. That came in the form of Raw
Rhythm, which was part of the Raw View Youth Arts festival. After an
ok first up performance, and a good crowd reaction, Crouton had
officially arrived on the Bendigo scene. A number of gigs have followed,
and many more will come in the future. Check the 'Gigs' page for current
details.
Crouton are based in Bendigo, and we all currently attend BSSC.
Crouton's influences include Eskimo Joe, Something For Kate, Foo Fighters,
Jebediah, Radiohead, and Klinger.
